Teens - UFO/Bigfoot keychain or earrings  

July 1

This kit has everything you’ll need to make a UFO/Bigfoot keychain or earrings. All that is required is carefully gluing the pieces together with super glue and then attaching a keyring or earring hooks. These pieces are made from wood and fluorescent acrylic cut and engraved from our 80W C02 Laser Engraver Cutting Machine from our new Makerspace.

Teens -Wreck this Journal  

June 1

Wreck This Journal is an activity inspired by artist and author Keri Smith. In this kit you will wreck your journal using narrative prompts, craft supplies, scissors, glue, and your imagination. This is a fantastic outlet for youth to unleash their creativity, let go of perfectionism, and have fun with art.

This month teens will take home a tiny canvas and easel to create a tiny work of art. Return your artwork to the library by February 20  to participate in a tiny artwork show! Kits are available until supplies last.

 We have two Craft for a Cause starting this November. Feel free to participate in both. 

Craft for a Cause: Comfort for Hospice

The Sandy and Hoodland Libraries are partnering with Mt. Hood Hospice to provide warmth and comfort to patients receiving end-of-life care. Knit or crochet a shawl or lap blanket using the guidelines below. We will be collecting items from November through February. and deliver them to Mt. Hood Hospice as they are turned in. Please deliver your finished shawl or lap blanket by no later than February 28th, to either Sandy or Hoodland Library. Instructions for Comfort Shawls and Lap Blankets

Craft for a Cause: Holiday cards for seniors

The Sandy Library invites you to make greeting cards for home-bound seniors to celebrate the holiday season. An assortment of craft supplies enclosed in the kit along with two blank cards will get you started, but you are welcome to use additional supplies of your own. 

The deadline to return the cards is December 20th.

Mini Pumpkin Decorating Contest - TEENS

Teen Mini Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Friday, October 1- Monday, October 25 

Hoodland Public Library | Sandy Public Library 

Pick up a mini pumpkin, contest rules, and entry form from Sandy or Hoodland Public Libraries starting Friday, October 1 to participate in the 2nd Annual Teen Mini Pumpkin Decorating Contest!

No carving or candles. Use paint, markers, glue, googly eyes. feathers, gems, or other craft supplies for your design!

Return decorated pumpkins by Monday, October 25. All participants will be entered into a drawing to win a $5 gift card to Mountain Moka.

One entry will be selected as Best in Show and will win a Halloween-inspired gift basket of tasty treats and prizes. Winners will be announced Friday, October 29.

Teen Take & Make July 2021

Starting July 1, pick up the newest Take and Make Kit for teens! This kit will contain materials and instructions for creating Among Us Shrinky Art Keychains. Use the traceable Among Us figures provided or draw your own! Kits are for teens in grades 6 - 12 and available while supplies last.

Take & Make for Kids

Take & Make for Kids Starting May 15th, pick up a Take-And-Make Kit at the Sandy and Hoodland Libraries. Create your own grass head person. Watch as their hair grows, then trim and style however you wish.   Use our curbside service to pick up your kit. Available while supplies last.

Kits are available while supplies last. This kit is for teens in 6th - 12th grade.

Craft for a Cause: Make a holiday card for a senior

The Sandy Library is looking for volunteers to help us make non-religious holiday cards with kind messages to share with seniors in the local community. Social distancing is important for public health right now, but this leaves some seniors feeling lonesome and isolated. Help us show they are loved and supported this holiday season by making a holiday card to brighten their day. 

Instructions

Create a handmade card with a cheerful message for a local senior. General “Thinking of You” cards work best since we don’t have any personal information on the card recipient. There is a random assortment of craft supplies enclosed in the kit for you to use, along with two blank cards. You will need your own markers or crayons and glue or glue stick. You are welcome to design the cards any way you like and use your own supplies if desired.

Pick up

Pick up your card kit at the library during curbside hours Monday - Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm or Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00. Pull into one of our curbside parking spots and call 503-668-5537 and let us know you would like a card kit.

Drop Off

Return your cards to the library during curbside hours Monday - Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm or Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00. Pull into one of our curbside parking spots and call 503-668-5537 to let us know you are dropping them off. If it’s raining, please put your cards in a plastic bag to keep them from getting wet.

Adult Take and Make: Collage Cards

What: Adult Take & Make

Title: Creative Collage Cards Kit 

Details:  We have 20 kits available, 'first come-first served'. Use the Sandy Library Curbside Pick-up service to request your kit. Curbside Service is everyday from  10:00 am - 4:00 pm, except for Sunday which runs Noon to 4:00 pm.

Collage is a wonderful vehicle for meditative expression

You will find this project to be a path to self-expression in a non-judgmental way. There is no right or wrong way to do collage art. Enjoy looking through the images in magazines. When an image appeals to you, you may cut it out with scissors, or simply tear around the image. Images you choose can have many meanings and you may be attracted to colors, shapes, and even letters or words.

After you have a selection of images prepared, place them on your card in a way that pleases you.
No glue yet, simply move them around until they ‘click’. When you are satisfied with your arrangement, carefully lift the edges of each piece, one at a time, and glue it to your card. You may also be inspired to add other items, such as ribbon, raffia, or other tidbits found around your home. Consider items from nature. You may wish to add paint or colored markers after the glue dries.

Creating a collage is a way to relax and let go of worries. Time can disappear.

What will you do with your finished projects?

★ Your creations could be framed as art.

★ You may wish to write a poem or quote on the back side and give it as a gift.

★ You could make greeting cards for friends and family.

★ They can be mailed as postcards too.

An interesting side note; it is remarkable how sometimes the theme of your collage will ‘come true’. For instance, years ago I made a collage without putting a huge amount of concentration in choosing my images, they just sort of appeared and unfolded. Some years later I realized that there were three dogs in my collage. Surprisingly, I had adopted a dog in the interim. Was it wishful thinking?
