Holiday Tree Lighting 2020

Things may look different this year, but traditions are traditions!

We are planning a way to keep Sandy's Tree Lighting on the calendar. The ceremony will be a combination, live-streamed, and drive through.

Watch the tree lighting via Facebook and YouTube with a special season's greeting from City Council and the Mayor. Drive-by Sandy's Centennial Plaza to see the tree and pick up a craft, drop off a letter to Santa, donate toys, and have a cookie.

We are accepting donations to fill Kiwanis barrels for toys. We are especially in need of toys and gift cards for older kids and teens.

Take & Make Craft - Help us make handcrafted cards for our local Seniors. cards need to be turned into the library by December 20th.

Write a letter to Santa before the event and drop it off in the mailbox next to the trolley where Santa will be parked. Santa will be waving to passers-by.

Treats and warm cocoa for the kids, coffee for adults.

Craft for a Cause: Make a holiday card for a senior

The Sandy Library is looking for volunteers to help us make non-religious holiday cards with kind messages to share with seniors in the local community. Social distancing is important for public health right now, but this leaves some seniors feeling lonesome and isolated. Help us show they are loved and supported this holiday season by making a holiday card to brighten their day. 

Instructions

Create a handmade card with a cheerful message for a local senior. General “Thinking of You” cards work best since we don’t have any personal information on the card recipient. There is a random assortment of craft supplies enclosed in the kit for you to use, along with two blank cards. You will need your own markers or crayons and glue or glue stick. You are welcome to design the cards any way you like and use your own supplies if desired.

Pick up

Pick up your card kit at the library during curbside hours Monday - Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm or Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00. Pull into one of our curbside parking spots and call 503-668-5537 and let us know you would like a card kit.

Drop Off

Return your cards to the library during curbside hours Monday - Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm or Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00. Pull into one of our curbside parking spots and call 503-668-5537 to let us know you are dropping them off. If it’s raining, please put your cards in a plastic bag to keep them from getting wet.

Need something printed? Send your documents to our printer and use curbside pick up to pick them up! No charge for print jobs. ::Note:: Documents will stay in the print queue until we close for the day. Make sure to call and have us release the prints before closing, even if you intend to pick them up on a different day.

Remote library offerings Your LINCC libraries have been creatively modifying the delivery of our services in order to reach you where you are. Some of the changes we’ve made include: Offering no-contact options for picking up holds Purchasing more e-books, e-audiobooks, and other digital content Offering e-cards to give new members instant access to all of our digital offerings Designing local virtual programming to educate and delight different age groups Providing reference, readers advisory, and technology support via telephone, email or chat Expanding our use of social media messages to help you stay connected to your library and discover our newest and neatest remote offerings Preparing to reopen in phases We are working to gradually and safely resume library services, following Governor Brown’s phased re-opening strategy. As these plans develop, we will share key dates and information to help you reconnect with your favorite library as smoothly as possible. You can help! We are all working hard to provide you with items you still have on hold. If you are no longer interested in your held items, please log into your account at lincc.org and cancel your holds. And for the items you do still want, we thank you for your patience as we work to get those delivered. All LINCC libraries will be accepting returns at their book drops starting June 15th. If you are able, we encourage you to start returning your checked-out items now. Please contact your local LINCC library for information on book drop hours. Extending Due Dates In order to help you stay close to home and reduce unnecessary travel, we have made the following changes to due dates. Due dates for all items checked out prior to June 15th have been extended to July 15th, 2020. Starting Monday, June 15th through Sunday, September 6th, any item you borrow will check out for 28 days. Make your own Mask

Simple cloth face coverings can help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings made from household items or common materials at low cost can be used as an additional public health measure. Bandanas, scarves and ski masks can be used. Our next meeting is scheduled for June 1 at 3:00 pm. An invitation to the meeting will be emailed a week prior to the meetings. Returning Library Materials

Nothing is due until after we open. If you need to return items, our bookdrops are open. These crates are filled and put aside for 3 days before we check them in. Your items will not immediately be removed from your account. Everything is being checked-in Fine Free.

Library Coffeehouse - May

Every month, the Sandy Library hosts a musician and turns the main part of the building into a concert venue. Desserts, coffee, community, and music.

This month, local musicians Tempa & Naor were scheduled to perform. 

While the event has been canceled, they will be performing a live stream on Sunday.

Do you miss Paint Night at Sandy Library? 
We sure do! Join us for an all-ages Virtual Paint Along with Melissa Lawrence. Follow along from the comfort of your own home. Enjoy a 90 minute guided painting class using acrylic paints on canvas. Participants will fill out a short form and a Zoom link will be emailed to you. Don't worry if you don't have all the right paint colors at home. Substitute the colors with what you have at home.
