Today is Trans Visibility day

President Joe Biden officially proclaimed March 31, 2021, as a Transgender Day of Visibility, proclaiming in part, “I call upon all Americans to join in the fight for full equality for all transgender people." The White House published this proclamation; this made Biden the first American president to issue a formal presidential proclamation recognizing the Transgender Day of Visibility. - Wikipedia

I Am Jazz by Jazz Jennings and Jessica Herthel

Book
From the time she was two years old, Jazz knew that she had a girl’s brain in a boy’s body. She loved pink and dressing up as a mermaid and didn’t feel like herself in boys’ clothing. This confused her family, until they took her to a doctor who said that Jazz was transgender and that she was born that way. Jazz’s story is based on her real-life experience and she tells it in a simple, clear way that will be appreciated by picture book readers, their parents, and teachers.

When Jackson Bird was twenty-five, he came out as transgender to his friends, family, and anyone in the world with an internet connection.

Assigned female at birth and raised as a girl, he often wondered if he should have been born a boy. Jackson didn’t share this thought with anyone because he didn’t think he could share it with anyone. Growing up in Texas in the 1990s,

he had no transgender role models. He barely remembers meeting anyone who was openly gay, let alone being taught that transgender people existed outside of punchlines.

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

Today marks the 111 anniversary of the horrific Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.

Overall, there were 146 victims of the fire, most of them young immigrant women. Though the fire itself was likely an accident, the circumstances which led to the deaths of these victims were borne from a combination of negligence, corruption, and exploitation on the part of those in power. As such, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire remains a tragic but highly important episode in U.S. labor history (More HERE)
