DIY Green Cleaners

Celebrate Earth Day by learning how to make your own, less toxic, more economical, cleaning products for your home. This program is presented by Clackamas County Sustainability & Solid Waste.

Attend the program and receive your own DIY Green Cleaner kit. Kits will be available for curbside pickup.

Benefits to cleaning with green cleaners:

• Less expensive
• You know exactly what's in it
• Better air quality
• Safer products
• Better for the environment
• Fewer antibacterials

Registration is required.  Registrants will be contacted and receive a Zoom link.  This program has a maximum attendance of 15.

Teen Flashlight Egg Hunt

Join us on Friday, April 2nd for our Teen Flashlight Egg Hunt in Meinig Park! Meet us under the gazebo! This year we will feature two flashlight eggs hunts in order to manage outdoor event capacity. Bring a bag, flashlight, and a jacket. Find the golden eggs and win $$$.

 Masks are required. If you don’t have one, one will be provided at no cost.   

Start time: 8:30 pm for middle school teens in grades 6th - 8th 

Start time: 9:00 pm for high school teens in grades 9th - 12th

Trailblazing American Women Writer Project: Sonia Sanchez

PBS Books continues its Trailblazing American Women Writers Project Series with poet, writer, and activist Sonia Sanchez on Thursday, March 18 on Facebook Live and YouTube Live. 

Sanchez is known as a leader of the Black Arts Movement and has written over a dozen books of poetry as well as essays, plays, and children’s books. She is known as the first poet to use urban Black English in written form, using rhythm to change the world of poetry. Along with being a leader in the Black Arts movement, she was and continues to be active in the Civil Rights movement.

Seed library news

 Dear Gardeners,

When we think of tomatoes many of us picture cute little Cherry tomatoes, or good for sauce Roma, or large Beefsteak, and perhaps heirloom. Recently I counted the number of varieties of tomato seeds in our Sandy Seed Library cabinet and found the total to be 55 varieties. Wow! Take a look the next time you come in to browse.

We have received a wonderful donation of locally grown and harvested Cove Tronchuda Kale seeds which originally came from a Portugal Family Farm. The following information was given to us along with a photo from their garden. 

Grown at 1200 ft elevation - harvested 2-07-2021.
Portuguese Kale Seeds  Cove Tronchuda - All the Portuguese people grow this in their yards. It's mainly used for soups - Kale Soup - "Green Soup" potatoes, linguica, kale, onions,garlic -- Really good.  My husband is from the Azores and these are seeds from the islands.  As with cabbage, kale gets sweeter when the weather is cool or cold.  We just picked the tops out of our plants, chopped, blanched and froze 20 quart bags of kale for soup.

To use the Sandy Seed Library, you may come to the west entrance during the following hours:

Sunday: 10am - 12 noon, and 1pm - 4pm

Monday: 10am - 1pm, and 2pm - 4pm

Tuesday: 10am - 12 noon, and 2pm - 5pm

Wednesday: 10am - 1pm, and 2pm - 4pm

Thursday: 10am - 12 noon, and 2pm - 5pm

Friday: 10am - 1pm, and 2pm - 4pm

Saturday: 10am - 12 noon, and 1pm - 4pm

Only one person at a time. If someone is already using the seed library, we will take your name & phone number to call you when it is your turn.

There are envelopes available for you to put your chosen seeds in. Be sure to put any growing info on your envelope so you will know what to do when you get them home.

Earth Day in Sandy

Join neighbors and friends to beautify the city of 

Sandy's local parks, public spaces, and local trails. 

This event is for all ages. Hours 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. 

Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, 

close-toed shoes. All supplies will be provided, 

feel free to bring your own garden or work gloves. 

Bring a snack for yourself and remember your 

reusable water bottle to stay hydrated! Meet at the

Virtual Repair Events

Gather your broken item and tools together to get coaching from around the world without leaving your home. Fixit Clinic hosts virtual repair events (via Zoom) where people can get advice and real-time coaching to fix their items themselves. Anyone can sign up to participate as a coach, as an attendee or an observer. Make sure you have a camera-enabled device and the latest version of Zoom for the best repair experience.

Life and Career Options Program at CCC

 

LCOP was designed for people experiencing life transitions, including change in employment circumstances; entering recovery; change in relationship statuses such as separation, divorce, or death of a spouse; change in health circumstances; change in parenting roles, including having children or children leaving the home; change in caregiver role; entering the workforce after a break; seeking a new career pathway; or reentering society after incarceration.

This program will help students reflect upon their identities and patterns, the role of change and transition in their lives, and prepare them for further education and the job market.

LCOP combines identity exploration with career exploration, giving students the tools to develop a thoughtful plan for their future.
